The VISIONS’ Legacy Project is a youth development initiative founded in Boston, MA in 2008. The Legacy program addresses education gaps in American history for a multicultural group of Fresno County youth. This program uniquely integrates self-awareness, leadership development, critical thinking, team building, equity and inclusion, mental health awareness and professional development. Unlike traditional youth-based programs that focus solely on education or advocacy, the VISIONS’ Legacy Project offers a comprehensive 5-week immersive curriculum designed for youth of color aged 14-24. The program covers topics such as American history, personal and cultural awareness, leadership development, social justice and systemic racism. The program equips participants with tools to name their emotions, identify harmful behaviors to self and others, and become effective leaders in their communities. Throughout the 5-weeks, participants will engage in daily educational modules, take-home assignments, group activities, dialogues, arts-based projects, conflict resolution, financial literacy and career development. It also has a strong component related to mental health as it informs and equips youth with tools to address modern day oppression and inequity, and more importantly their response to it.
