The Legacy Project - Fresno 2021, is a Leadership Development & Summer Job Opportunity for Youth (ages 14-24) in the Fresno Area.
COVID-19 - We Are All in This Together
In observance with guidelines recommended by the CDC, as well as our state and federal governments, the Queen Califia Empowerment Project/Legacy Project - Fresno staff is pleased to work virtually to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
This summer we will pilot a digital version of the program and re-engage last years’ participants offering them new ways to practice communicating about systemic oppression. Participants will practice together using a common language and framework (VISIONS Tools), then use their acquired experience and creativity to develop content that can be shared on social media in order to spread a message that inspires critical thinking and action towards equity among their peers.
Participants will engage in peer leadership and anti-oppression/multicultural skill development. They will be exposed to practice conflict resolution models, financial literacy resources, and gain experience using the internet as a career development tool. Legacy Project Fresno is based on the VISIONS Inc. Legacy Project, a youth development program that started in Boston, MA in 2008. VISIONS Inc. is an international consulting organization that provides training and facilitation around diversity, equity and inclusion. The Legacy Project has adapted the VISIONS Model for youth. Participants in Legacy Fresno will strengthen their understanding of the VISIONS Tools and apply them to the current issues that face our nation and the world. Now being offered again to the Fresno community in partnership with the Queen Califia Empowerment Project for the second year.
The program will run for 5 weeks. Participants will be paid to learn the VISIONS materials through a series of asynchronous online modules, assignments, and group activities/dialogue on video conferences. The group will work together to develop virtual content and measure their own progress as they find creative ways to share their reflections and come to know about themselves and the world. Each youth will be responsible for completing each week’s assignments and being present for group activities. They will receive a stipend upon completion of the program.
